It is expected that the novelty of the Italian brand, which is part of the auto giant Stellantis, will appear in 2027. This “green” SUV will probably be based on the STLA Large platform.
Stellantis set Alfa Romeo’s management the task of achieving profitability, as a result, the premium Italian brand had to partially refocus on the development of electric vehicles, as well as pay more attention to the segment that is now in demand among the mass audience, we are talking about the SUV. This is how the Alfa Romeo Tonale crossover appeared, which already has a twin – the Dodge Hornet (the American brand also belongs to the auto giant).
Alfa Romeo does not plan to dwell on this: last spring, information appeared about the “younger brother” Tonale, who can share the STLA Small platform and equipment with Jeep Avenger (and this brand is part of Stellantis). And then it was assumed that the compact novelty would occupy an empty niche, which previously housed the three-door hatchback MiTo.
Another novelty of Alfa Romeo may be a large all-electric crossover, which will take the place of the flagship SUV brand. The British Autocar reports on the future replenishment of the model range with reference to the CEO of the brand Jean-Philippe Imparato. The name of the new crossover is still kept secret by the company.
According to the publication, the large Alfa Romeo SUV will be based on the STLA Large platform designed only for electric vehicles. Recall that this “cart” will be based on large models that will be produced under the premium brands Stellantis: we are talking not only about Alfa Romeo, but also about Maserati, DS, Lancia.
It is expected that the as-yet unnamed novelty will have an 800 V electrical system and an ultrafast traction battery charging function. As the publication notes, as a result, in 30 minutes the battery will be able to replenish to the level necessary to overcome a path of about 500 miles (more than 800 km), provided that powerful chargers are used for this.
There is no exact information about the technique of a large crossover yet. It is possible that the top version of the novelty with the addition of Quadrifoglio to the name can be equipped with a power plant of three electric motors. The cumulative output of such a system is likely to exceed 1000 hp.
Alfa Romeo’s flagship electric crossover is likely to appear in 2027. As Jean-Philippe Imparato noted, the model will be sold including in Europe, but the priority markets for this SUV will be the United States and China. It is expected that this novelty of the Italian brand will compete with the already presented BMW iX and Lotus Eletre, as well as the next-generation Porsche Cayenne under development and the future Alpine model.
