Stellantis Corporation has announced the imminent completion of production of the Ram 1500 TRX superpipe, equipped with a unique chassis and a 712-horsepower V8 compressor motor, but it does not say goodbye to the abbreviation TRX, which means that in the future there will be a new bold and powerful model – this time, most likely, fully electric.
The Ram 1500 TRX debuted in August 2020 and became the pinnacle of the evolution of Ram gasoline pickups: Stellantis Corporation equipped it with the legendary 6.2-liter V8 HEMI compressor with a maximum output of 712 hp and 881 Nm, thanks to which the Ram 1500 TRX remains the most powerful stock “hydrocarbon” pickup on the market to this day. The Ford F-150 Raptor R introduced in 2022 turned out to be slightly weaker, its 5.2-liter V8 Predator produces 710 hp and 868 Nm, General Motors Corporation still does not have such powerful gasoline pickups and is unlikely to appear any more.
The abbreviation TRX does not mean anything definite, the version that Tyrannosaurus Rex stands behind it (it is believed that he was the most dangerous predator dinosaur) is not official, although Stellantis PR people really like it, they themselves call Ram 1500 TRX the “supreme predator”. In fact, the name for the top version of Ram 1500 was chosen during a brainstorming session for a very limited time, before the abbreviation TRX denoted an off-road package for Ram pickups, and it was simply taken from the archive so as not to waste time and money on registering something new.
In addition to the powerful Ram 1500 TRX motor, it has received a huge number of unique parts: the frame and suspension are, in fact, completely new, designed for increased and shock loads that are inevitable when driving fast off-road. Under the hood, in addition, there is a garbage can for dust and dirt flying into the car. More details about the design features of the Ram 1500 TRX can be found in our separate note, here we will only briefly say that its ground clearance is 300 mm, acceleration to 60 mph (96.56 km/ h) takes 4.5 seconds, the maximum speed is limited at 190 km/h.
The press and fans of the Ram brand greeted the TRX very warmly, the reviews from the test drives were and remain enthusiastic, the model quickly became a cult and collectible, and the price was regularly increased. If at the start of sales for the Ram 1500 TRX they asked for $69,995, now it costs $ 85,050 in the “base”, and for the farewell version of the Final Edition you will have to pay at least $117,625 plus $1995 for delivery.
The features of the Final Edition include three unique body colors to choose from – Delmonico Red, Night Edge Blue and Harvest Sunrise (with five more standard colors available), commemorative stickers and nameplates, a license plate in the cabin on the armrest between the front seats, 18-inch Satin Titanium wheels with the possibility of installing bedlocks, carbon fiber interior decor and special stitching of leather upholstery. The standard equipment includes a powerful Harman Kardon audio system with 19 loudspeakers, a projection screen, a digital rear-view mirror, an electric drive for adjusting the front seats and a rich set of electronic driver assistants, including adaptive cruise control.
Ram 1500 TRX Final Edition refers to the 2024 model year, but its production will end at the end of 2023. The entire batch of 4000 farewell cars planned for release will be quickly disassembled, but the company will release some more of the usual 1500 TRX, so everyone has a chance to have time to put this outstanding oil truck in their garage.
The Stellantis press release says that for TRX this is not the end of the story, but only the end of a specific chapter, which means that there will be a new TRX. Next year, the electric Ram 1500 REV will enter the market – probably the new TRX will be made on its basis.
