The new crossover became the first production car of the Czech brand, the design of which reflected elements of the corporate identity demonstrated with the Vision 7S concept.

Skoda introduced the Kodiaq in 2016, and restyled this crossover in 2021. Over the past few months, the manufacturer has been actively fueling interest in this model by publishing official sketches, teasers and the first information about the future novelty, and now the Skoda Kodiaq of the second generation has been declassified completely: the SUV’s debut was held in the format of an online presentation.

The next-generation Skoda Kodiaq became the first production car of the Czech brand, the design of which reflected elements of a new corporate identity demonstrated with the Vision 7S concept. The exterior of the model was changed due to other vyshtampovki on the hood, the head optics of the corrected shape and with a new “filling”, as well as the corrected volumetric radiator grille, which is crossed by an optional dotted line visually connecting the stripes of running lights.

Another new crossover received a different front bumper with a trapezoidal central air intake, as well as a rear bumper: the reflectors moved lower on a massive plastic cover. The models also changed the shape of the taillights, making them sectional, gave a new spoiler on the top of the luggage door and other rails. The manufacturer noted that the drag coefficient of the novelty is 0.282.

During the generation change , Kodiaq has increased in length: it grew by 61 mm to 4758 mm, while the distance between the axes remained the same – 2791 mm. The width and height of the crossover, on the contrary, decreased: to 1864 mm (by 18 mm) and to 1657 mm (by 4 mm), respectively. The company noted that the trunk volume of the model has increased, now the five-seat version has 910 liters (75 liters more), and the seven-seat version (behind the third row) has an indicator of 340 liters (70 liters more).

The interior of the “second” Kodiaq was equipped with a 10-inch virtual instrument panel, which is complemented by a projection screen. The model also received a separately located central touchscreen of the infotainment system (the diagonal of the starting versions is 10 inches, the top – 13 inches). The new SUV also has “floating” door handles (on the inside), and the automatic transmission selector has moved from the central tunnel to the right side of the steering column.

The company also stressed that there is no chrome in the interior of the crossover, and the textiles used for finishing are made either entirely of recycled polyester or 40% natural wool. The kit traditionally includes an ice scraper and an umbrella, while the manufacturer stressed that they were created “from environmentally friendly materials.”

The next-generation Skoda Kodiaq, like the new Volkswagen Tiguan, is based on the MQB-Evo platform. The crossover of the Czech brand has five modifications, two of them are electrified. So, the SUV is offered with a 2.0-liter TDI turbodiesel, its power can be equal to either 150 or 193 hp, as well as with a 204-horsepower TSI gasoline turbocharger of the same volume. All versions with a traditional internal combustion engine are paired with a seven-speed DSG automatic; the more powerful diesel and gasoline versions have a full drive.

The fourth option is a soft hybrid power plant, which is based on a 1.5–liter gasoline TSI engine with a capacity of 150 hp, which comes complete with a 48-volt starter generator. This version is also aggregated with the 7DSG, but the drive (as well as the “younger” diesel version) is only front.

Another option is a full-fledged PHEV version, which the current Skoda Kodiaq does not have. The system of the Kodiaq iV rechargable hybrid is based on the same 1.5-liter gasoline engine that works in tandem with an electric motor; the total output is 204 hp. The system includes 6DSG and a battery with a capacity of 25.7 kWh, the power reserve without recharging when driving only on electric traction exceeds 100 km.

The second-generation Skoda Kodiaq will go on sale on the European market in early 2024, prices will be announced later. The current crossover on the home market costs at least 1,069,900 Czech crowns, and for the top version they ask for at least 1,399,900 Czech crowns.
