The new five-door is currently offered only in the form of an all-wheel drive hybrid HEV, later a rechargeable version of the PHEV will be tightened.

A year ago, Toyota introduced the Crown sedan of the new, sixteenth generation, and at the same time the company announced that the model would become a separate global family. In addition to the four-door with a “crossover” image (in her homeland she even has a “surname” Crossver), which, by the way, is already available in many countries, the line will include the Crown Sport SUV, the classic Crown Sedan (it has a rear-wheel drive platform) and the Crown Estate station wagon. So now the second member of the new family is entering the market: orders for a five-door crossover have been opened in Japan.

In general, the Crown Sport looks more like a hatchback, but the brand positions this car exactly as an SUV. The crossover is built on the same GA-K platform with a transverse motor arrangement and main front-wheel drive as the four-door Crown. At the same time, the suspension of the SUV was still reconfigured, as was the fully-controlled DRS (Dynamic Rear Steering) chassis.

The length of the five–door (in Japanese specification) is 4720 mm, width – 1880 mm, height – 1565 mm, wheelbase – 2770 mm. That is, in terms of its dimensions, the Toyota Crown Sport is close, for example, to the Infiniti QX55. The ground clearance of the new Toyota is only 160 mm.

The exterior features of the suv are LED C–shaped running lights, compact headlights integrated into the bumper, mirrors on massive legs and narrow taillights. The crossover has 21-inch wheels by default. At the same time, the Crown Sport is shown with a more aggressive body kit from Modellista. Inside, the SUV almost completely repeated the related four-door. The volume of the trunk of the Sport is 397 liters against 450 liters of the sedan.

Like the four-door model, the Crown Sport is offered only as a hybrid, there are two such versions. Now an all-wheel drive version of the HEV is available to order, that is, without the possibility of charging from the mains. The installation of such a crossover includes a 2.5 gasoline atmospheric engine (186 hp, 221 Nm), an electric motor with a capacity of 120 hp (202 Nm) and an electromechanical variator, a separate electric motor with 54 hp is installed on the rear axle (all-wheel drive is called E-Four). And in December, a rechargeable hybrid PHEV will be released on the market. The company has not yet told about its filling. According to unofficial data, the Crown Sport PHEV will also receive an installation based on the 2.5 atmospheric engine, whereas the turbomotor 2.4 has a rechargable sedan.

For the Japanese, the suv is still available in a single configuration, its arsenal includes: leather upholstery, a multimedia system with a 12.3-inch screen, climate control and a Toyota Safety Sense complex (adaptive cruise control, auto-braking systems, lane keeping, etc.).

The price of the crossover is 5,900,000 yen, which is equivalent to about 3,950,000 rubles at the current exchange rate. The Crown sedan costs from 4,350,000 yen, which is about 2,914,000 rubles. “Live” sales of the Toyota Crown Sport HEV crossover will start in Japan in November, and in the same month the company will present a serial Crown Sedan on a rear-wheel drive platform. And the station wagon will replenish the range next year.
