Coach Rennae Stubbs confirmed Serena Williams, 44, intends to keep playing and target the US Open (starts Aug. 30).
Williams lost in the Wimbledon first round to Maya Joint and then aggravated her right knee, forcing withdrawal from doubles.
Stubbs said Williams also wants to play singles warm-up events before Flushing Meadows, unlike her grass-court build-up.
Williams shared images on Instagram of fluid drained from her knee after the match.
Her coach believes the hard courts of the US Open, where Williams has won six titles, will suit her better physically.
