Arthur Fery: British wildcard reaches Wimbledon semi-final from World No. 114
Arthur Fery, a 23-year-old British wildcard ranked No. 114, reached the Wimbledon semi-finals — the deepest run by a British wildcard in the Open Era.
Fery grew up approximately one mile from the All England Club and was a two-time All-American at Stanford University.
He defeated 9th seed Flavio Cobolli in the quarter-finals 6-4, 7-6(4), 6-0, having earlier beaten Grigor Dimitrov in five sets.
Fery battled persistent nosebleeds throughout the tournament, requiring mid-match treatment multiple times.
His run ended in the semi-finals against Alexander Zverev 7-6(0), 6-2, 6-4, with Fery falling just short of becoming the first wildcard finalist since Goran Ivanisevic in 2001.
